The Modi government effected its first cabinet reshuffle since coming to power in 2014. Smriti Irani and Babul Supriyo were shifted to Textiles and Heavy Industries ministries respectively. Minorities Affairs Minister Najma Heptullah had to pave way for her deputy Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi. Venkaiah Naidu was handed over Information & Broadcasting Ministry by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
Heavy Industries minister G.M. Siddheshawara has been axed.Here is a list of portfolios of Cabinet Ministers, Minister of State with independent charges and State Minister: Two of the nine new ministers sworn in - former foreign service officer Hardeep Puri and former IAS officer K J Alphons - are not members of Parliament (MP). The other seven who join Prime Minister Modi's council of ministers are Uttara Kannada MP Anantkumar Hegde, former home secretary and Arrah MP R K Singh, Jodhpur MP Gajendra Singh, former Mumbai police commissioner and Baghpat MP Satya Pal Singh, Rajya Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh Shiv Pratap Shukla, Buxar MP Ashwini Chaubey and Tikamgarh MP Virendra Kumar.
